Hyderabad: A 21-year-old man from Jogipet in Sangareddy district of Telangana married a 22-year-old man from Chandoor in Medak district. Both were “high” after a few drinks when the “wedding” took place.

The two men met at a toddy shop in the village of Dumapalapet and became friends. They often met for a drink.

The man from Chandoor, a motorist, tied a thali around the neck of the man from Jogipet at a ceremony at Joginath Gutta temple last month. They were drunk when the ceremony took place.

After the “marriage,” the two men went to their respective homes.

Last week, the man from Jogipet, who is unemployed and doing odd jobs to make ends meet, suddenly visited the motorist’s home.

He told the car driver’s parents about the marriage.

When asked by the parents, the driver said that they often met for a drink. He did not deny the “marriage.”

However, the motorist and his parents did not agree to let the Jogipet man into their home.

When the chandoor man refused to let the jogipet man into his house and live with him, he went to the police.

The petition was later withdrawn as they decided not to pursue the case with the police.

“Families on both sides were intimidated by the issue. They discussed it among themselves and resolved the issue,” Sub-Inspector Mohammed Ghouse told TOI.

Police did not say how the matter was settled between the two parties.

The jogipet man said he would not insist on living with the chandoor man as a married couple if he was paid Rs 1 lakh, TOI reported. He was reportedly given 10,000 rupees.

The men were formally separated from their families.
