The household desperately searches for info because the search continues for the lacking Aiken County mom

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) — We often report missing person cases and how to help find them, but one family says the disappearance of their loved one doesn’t add up.

Krystal Anderson went missing in Aiken County, last seen outside her home on August 20.

Her family is trying to find out where she is, and so are investigators.

Her family’s initial gut feeling is that this is not good. Anderson is usually just a text or phone call away.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office says they are looking at the evidence and hope to find it soon, but her family is calling for more urgency.

“I try not to think the worst, but sometimes I do,” said Shadria Smothers, Anderson’s sister.

Daughter, sister, mother and friend are some of the titles Anderson holds.

“She was a great mother, a great sister. She is my little sister. She always looked up to me and called me for anything she wanted to do,” Smothers said.

The 30-year-old was reported missing to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 23 from her home in Wagener, SC

Leaving her four children behind, her family says she would never do it voluntarily.

“Involuntarily broken? Yes, a few of them. I picked her up and brought her to North Carolina. But during those breaks, she always had her kids,” she said.

Smothers says it’s not uncommon not to hear from her sister for a few days.

“Even if she had problems, she would contact me. She might contact her friends. Someone always knew their whereabouts. She’s never done anything like this before,” she said.

Her sister received a call from one of the children’s fathers after she failed to show up to pick up her son before school started.

“I got a call from him on Tuesday that Krystal never got back to him. He turned to her. He was concerned. That’s how I found out she was missing,” Smothers said.

When she was reported missing, she had been gone for 72 hours.

As days turn into weeks with no response from law enforcement, the family’s frustration mounts.

“I feel very in the dark because I haven’t received a single call from Aiken County, not even a call of empathy,” Smothers said.

Aiken County is telling us that they have hired an investigator and are leading the investigation, but would not share more details than what we have in this report.

Her sister says they know something is wrong and they won’t stop until Anderson is found.

“We love you and we won’t stop looking for you. We will never stop looking for you until we get you home,” Smothers said.

Aiken County is telling us that they are treating this as a missing persons case. Anderson and her boyfriend Tony Berry are missing and the family needs your help.
