Man arrested for ‘GPS tracking devices on his wife and lover’s cars’

  • The businessman reportedly became suspicious of his wife last year
  • He is accused of having GPS devices attached to her and her friend’s cars
  • The 51-year-old would be the first to be charged with such an offence

As reported today, a concrete company boss is the first man to be arrested for allegedly putting GPS trackers on the cars of his wife and her alleged lover.

Steven Brown was arrested by police over allegations that he installed the devices on the car of his wife Nichola, 44, and her firefighter friend Mark Compton.

He was not charged but was arrested under stalking laws, which prohibit spying on others if doing so causes “alarm or distress”.

It is said that 51-year-old Mr Brown, who runs a concrete company in south London, became suspicious of his wife late last year.

Then last month she and Mr Compton found the GPS trackers under their cars and Mr Brown was questioned by police, The Sun reported.

A source told the newspaper that Mr and Mrs Brown, of Sutton, Surrey, have split over the allegations and he is now seeing someone else.

An employee of Mr Brown’s company Easy Mix Concrete says the boss wants the problems with his future ex-wife to go away.

The employee, who has been with the company since its inception, insisted the incident was disproportionate.

He said, “Mark.” [Compton] has been having an affair with Nichola, Steve’s wife, since 2013.

“Steve didn’t do anything wrong, he wants everything to go away.” Personally, I don’t think he did. Mark also lives with his wife, she is obviously not very happy.’

Mr Brown, who lived with his future wife for several years before marrying, previously ran a dumpster and recycling company that closed in 2009.

A neighbor of Mr Brown said of the separated couple: “They lived there for about three years but I don’t think Steve has lived there for about six months.”

“I think they’re getting divorced. I’ve heard rumors about the other man but never seen him.”

A Hampshire Police spokesman said: “We have arrested a 51-year-old man from Sutton on suspicion of stalking.” He was released on bail pending further investigation.

There have been numerous GPS tracking devices on the market specifically aimed at the suspicious husband or wife.

Although no one has been sued in court for tracking their spouse, legal experts advise users of the devices to get permission from anyone using them for tracking.

An employee of Mr Brown’s company said this morning they didn’t think he had done anything wrong. Mr Brown is accused of putting a tracking device like the one pictured on the cars to check on his wife. file photo
