It's not too often that a perpetrator escapes from the police during a car chase, but it has been known to happen.
The White Settlement has invested in new technologies that ensure suspects never escape again.
The department will soon deploy more than a dozen patrol units with GPS tracking arrows, allowing officers to track vehicles from a distance rather than following them up close.
Chief Christopher Cook told WFAA, “This is an investment in smart technology that will hopefully reduce liability, reduce litigation, reduce injuries and ultimately reduce fatalities.”
The arrow protrudes from the police vehicle's ram rod, and once mounted on a vehicle, it STAY there. “Whatever it hits, it gets stuck and won’t come off,” Officer Bryan Conley said. “We can track them all day, whenever it’s stuck to the car.”
Technology like this isn't cheap; Each device costs about $20,000. For the officers, however, this just means more time until they can finally recover the car and hopefully arrest it. “Just do it in our time and not theirs,” Conley said.
