ECI installs GPS tracking system in vehicles used for election process in West Bengal

Calcutta: The Election Commission has decided to install a GPS location tracking system in all vehicles used during the election process in West Bengal.

A letter regarding this has been received by the election officials. The GPS tracking system will be used to monitor the movement of EVMs and other electoral materials from the Distribution/Distribution Center and Receiving Center (DCRC) to the polling station on the day before the elections. The GPS tracking devices ensure that no tampering occurs during the transmission to the vault after the survey is completed.

The ECI has asked the administration to take immediate steps to install the GPS trackers.

Meanwhile, the ECI appointed joint secretary in the school education department Arnab Chatterjee as the joint returning officer in West Bengal in place of Rahul Nath, an official order said.

The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal begin on April 19.
