Lake District: Search dog Bramble finds missing person in Keswick

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team were called at 6.29pm on Wednesday 22 May to assist in the search for a missing person in the town.

Also involved in the search were Keswick MRT, MRT teams from Cockermouth, Penrith, Kirby Steven, Wasdale, Kendal, LAMRT, Coniston, West Cumbria SAR, Maryport Inshore SAR, LDSAMRA search dogs, Northumberland NP MRT, Whitehaven Coastguard, Cumbria Police and NWAS.

Bramble, a search dog with the Northumberland Mountain Rescue Team, made his first ever find when he tracked the missing person in “very dense bracken and foliage”.

In a statement, Keswick MRT said: “The Keswick team has been asked to assist in locating a missing person who may be somewhere in the Keswick area.”

“Due to the heavy rain and the huge, complex search area, further assistance was requested.

“Initially, the obvious local tracks and lake shore were searched until darkness prevented an effective search. This continued the following morning with many more MR teams assigned to specific search areas.

“Andrew Jenkins and search dog Bramble from the Northumberland National Park MRT were tasked with searching the lower slopes of Latrigg above the River Greta.

“Bramble made the discovery – her first – in very dense, wet bracken and foliage. The missing person was hypothermic but safe.

“Thank you to all the teams involved and to Brysons for their generous cake donation.”
