Ch. Naeem Akhtar condemns the use of GPS tracking devices by the Indian government to monitor the activities of OJ&K employees

Muzaffarabad, (Parliament Times): Chaudhry Naeem Akhtar, Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Forum France, Central Member, Executive Committee of Muslim League (N) and former Coordinator of Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir for Europe, strongly condemned the use of GPS tracking devices by the Indian government to monitor the daily activities of the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Modi, terming it a blatant violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms. Speaking to the media, he suggested that the GPS trackers were a form of surveillance of Kashmiris and restricted their freedom of movement and privacy. He clarified that the use of this technology reflected the Indian colonial era mindset where Kashmiris were treated like slaves and not citizens. He felt that the installation of GPS trackers on Kashmiris was a dangerous development that would further facilitate the control and oppression of Kashmiris who are already victims of Indian atrocities. He urged the international community to take note of India's increasing attacks on the fundamental rights and dignity of Kashmiris. It may be noted that in the last two days, the Indian authorities have fitted GPS trackers to three Kashmiris out on bail in Islamabad and Barahmula districts. Earlier in November last year, 65-year-old Ghulam Muhammad Butt, a resident of Srinagar, was fitted with a GPS tracker.
