Ludhiana: A business dinner with a client turned into a nightmare for an employee of a private company who fell victim to yet another carjacking incident in the district where such incidents are becoming more common. The latest incident occurred when the victim stopped at a dhaba on Moga Road near Jagraon to have dinner with a distributor of his company.
Car theft case solved in no time thanks to GPS
Anuj Malik of Rajnagar Colony, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, currently living in Beant Nagar, Moga, works as a district manager with an agribusiness company, Biostadt India. On Sunday, he was on his way from Ludhiana to Moga with a distributor, Riju Sood of Moga. At around 10 pm, both of them were having dinner at a dhaba in Jagraon. They ordered the food and sat in the company car, a Wagon R (PB-10-HR-3023), eating when two people crowded into the back seat while another waited outside on a motorcycle.
The complainant said that the accused pulled out a gun and pushed them out of the car and threatened to kill them. After that, the accused fled in the car and the motorcycle. A team of City Jagraon police station led by SHO Inspector Amritpal Singh arrived at the scene after being alerted and the three unidentified men were booked under Section 309 (4) BNS (Robbery).
Police said that a police squad with the plaintiff was tracking the car because the GPS system of the car was switched on and the plaintiff was getting information about the direction of the vehicle. When the car thieves realized that they were being followed by the police, they abandoned the vehicle near Naivala village near Barnala and fled.
SSP, Ludhiana Rural, Navneet Singh Bains confirmed that the police found the car near the village after a chase on Sunday evening. He added that the accused were carrying a weapon. Since then, video footage of the accused has surfaced.
