Islamabad: National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) Inspector General Riffat Mukhtar Raja recently visited the 130 Help Line, Emergency Operations Center, GPS Tracking System and Public Service Vehicles Management Center (PSV-MIS ) in Islamabad of Highway (M-2) North Toll Plaza, a press release said.
During his visit, he closely inspected the GPS tracking system used to monitor patrol vehicles on national highways and highways across Pakistan. The IG reviewed the performance of these vehicles and directed officials to take measures to further improve the efficiency and functionality of the digital GPS system. Motorway police officers informed him about the performance of the system and its contribution to road safety.
Accompanied by Additional IG North Region Yasin Farooq and DIG Motorway (M-2) North Salman Ali Khan, IG also reviewed the day-to-day operations of the (PSV-MIS). On this occasion, he emphasized the importance of the public service vehicle management system in ensuring timely inspections and improving road safety. The IG explained that the National Highways & Motorway Police uses state-of-the-art technology for comprehensive and efficient digital and physical inspections of Public Service Vehicles (PSVs).
The implementation of a speed enforcement system in the Salt Range is an example of the use of advanced technology to improve road safety. There are plans to establish information management systems for public service vehicles at all major toll plazas on motorways and expressways. To date, over 13,000 buses, 16,000 drivers and 608 transport operators have been registered through this state-of-the-art system. This made it possible to significantly reduce accidents because better control was made possible. The system also keeps detailed records of PSV owners and employees so that complaints and suggestions can be responded to promptly. The IG emphasized that creating a safe driving environment on national highways and highways remains the top priority of the National Highways & Motorway Police.
