Mumbai: A GPS tracking chip Attached to a bag of jewelry and CCTV footage allowed police to arrest two people linked to a robbery and shooting near a hospital in south Mumbai. The incident took place on Monday evening when a man and his nephew were traveling on a two-wheeler carrying a bag containing gold ornaments worth Rs 42.27 lakh.

As they approached P D'Mello Road near St George Hospital, they were stopped and beaten up by four unidentified men, the official said. One of the accused allegedly opened fire on the duo and fled with his associates after stealing the bag containing the gold ornaments, the official said, according to news agency PTI. The man's nephew suffered serious gunshot wounds to the leg, he said.

Following the incident, senior police officers visited the crime scene and a case was initiated based on the man's complaint. Several teams were formed to track down the attackers.

Using the GPS chip in the bag and CCTV footage from the area, police arrested a suspect near Lokmanya Tilak Marg early on Tuesday morning. Another suspect was arrested from South Mumbai's Dongri area and jewelry worth Rs 16.50 lakh was recovered from him, according to the official.

Police are continuing to search for the remaining two perpetrators.

In another news, the directors of Platinum Hern Private Limited have been booked by the Mumbai Police for allegedly defrauding investors to the tune of Rs 13.48 crore. The defendants include the company's director Sarvesh Ashok Surve, CEO Victoria Covalenko, CEO Taufiq Riyaz (aka John Carter), managing director Tania Cosatova and branch manager Valentina Kumar.
