Hirror activity in Western Kentucky monitors through GPS tracking

Kentucky (Fox 56) – If you see collar on Hirsch in Westkentucky, you are probably part of a research partnership, not from pets.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR) and the University of Kentucky have worked to fit with GPS collar to examine their movements and areas in Westkentucky.

On Friday, KDFWR shared an update about the study.

The department said the deer was most active in dawn from September 18 to 24, but they don't seem to work hard for food.

“If acorns are now on site, deer does not have to travel far to find food. This means that the overall movement is reduced for the time being,” remarked the update.

These current trends will shift with the ruting season, which according to fish and wild animals usually between the end of October and early December.
