A new GPS tracking system is being rolled out to tackle cable theft at electric vehicle charging stations in hotspots such as Southampton.
The program, launched by Basingstoke-based InstaVolt in collaboration with Trackit247, will see live GPS devices installed in charging cables across the company's national network.
The aim is to deter theft and support the police in recovering stolen cables.

Delvin Lane, CEO of InstaVolt, said: “By introducing GPS technology, we are setting a new benchmark for how the industry can deter criminals, protect infrastructure and support law enforcement.”
“Cable theft is a growing challenge for our industry, threatening the trust of electric vehicle drivers and undermining investment in charging infrastructure.
“By pioneering the use of live GPS tracking alongside our partners at Trackit247, we are taking decisive action to protect our network and help police combat this crime.”
The devices provide location updates every three seconds and are geographically isolated with their charger.
Any movement outside the authorized area triggers an immediate alert to InstaVolt's 24/7 security control center.
