BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky (WBKO) – Local authorities held a press conference at the Bowling Green Police Department on Monday afternoon. Bowling Green Police Chief Michael Delaney, Fire Chief Justin Brooks, and City Manager Jeff Meisel all spoke.
“A great man once said that you can’t see wind, but you can see the effects of wind, and we are feeling the effects of that wind today,” said fire chief Brooks.
Police Chief Mike Delaney said the BGPD, along with the ATF and the FBI, investigated a total of 136 missing person reports. Of these reports, 13 people are still missing by Monday evening.
This is less than 22nd Governor Andy Beshear, who was reported Monday afternoon.
“Thirteen is still one too many,” said Chief Delaney. “We want to make sure that everyone gets their loved ones back, reunited when they have been evicted. That was our main focus. “
Ronnie Ward, Public Information Officer for the Bowling Green Police, gave an important update on the cleanup. He said to make sure that any debris is placed on the side of the road and that a person (s) hired by the city come to remove branches and other items.
It is important to ensure that branches of trees are separated from other materials such as metal or parts of a building. “The reason for this is that we have to take this debris with us and weigh it because FEMA monitors and measures all of the debris,” said Ward. “So please don’t drag it away, just leave it there.”
Officials assume that any failed power lines are active and do not touch them.
The old mall at 2413 Nashville Road will serve as a meeting point for people who want to volunteer with the cleanup. Those who want to volunteer can come by on Tuesday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
