A deputy responded to the battery at Walmart, 550 US Hwy. 27 in Clermont around 6:11 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
When the deputy arrived, he spoke with 58-year-old Angela Moore Gatlin, who told him she had come from Alabama to exchange custody on behalf of her son. She became increasingly frustrated with the lack of communication with her granddaughter’s mother and the female victim, the report said.
When Gatlin’s granddaughter’s mother, her granddaughter and the victim arrived at the store, a verbal altercation ensued that escalated when Gatlin “lightly” grabbed the victim’s hair. The victim and her granddaughter’s mother began filming the altercation. Gatlin then took the phone from the victim’s hand, but gave it back shortly after at his request, the report said.
The deputy then spoke with the granddaughter’s mother and the victim, who confirmed Gatlin’s story. The victim said she suffered no injuries during the altercation, the report said.
The cell phone recordings were also given to the deputy. In it, Gatlin was seen approaching the victim, squeezing her arms and snatching her cell phone from her, the report said.
Gatlin was then arrested for simple assault. She was taken to the Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
