Allahabad High Court on maintenance dispute of an elderly couple

The court said it hoped the couple would reach an agreement by the next hearing.

With a married couple aged between 75 and 80 years fighting a maintenance dispute against each other, the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday made a clear observation: It seems that “Kalyug” (the age of darkness in Hinduism) has arrived.

While hearing a petition filed by husband Munesh Kumar Gupta of Aligarh against a family court order in favor of his wife, Justice Saurabh Shyam Shamshery said the litigation was a matter of concern and also tried to advise the couple.

Mr. Gupta's wife had demanded maintenance from him and the family court had ruled in her favor. The husband challenged the order and the Supreme Court told the wife it hoped they would reach an agreement by the next hearing.
