BOSSIER CITY, La. — The Thanksgiving night shooting of an Army veteran in a grocery store parking lot occurred during a custody exchange, KTBS has learned.
Keambiroiro Edwards, 42, was shot in the back, sources told KTBS.
Bossier City police described the fatal encounter as a fight. It took place on November 23 around 5 p.m. in the parking lot of the Super 1 grocery store on Airline Drive.
Sources told KTBS that the mother of the child at the center of the apparent disagreement was present when Edwards was shot. It was initially not known what the dispute was about.
Edwards was taken to Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport, where he died.
The person who fired the weapon was still at the scene when police arrived. So far there have been no arrests.
Edwards was a distinguished Army veteran who served 20 years and seven months, including eight combat tours. He was once assigned to the 157th Infantry Brigade as a joint fire specialist.
An Army website details his participation in a training operation with multinational forces in 2013. At the time, Edwards was a sergeant first class, a senior rank. He retired from the army in 2020.
