Atiya Sabri, three-time Talaq petitioner, wins upkeep battle and calls on extra ladies to hitch the battle

In a landmark ruling, a family court in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur has ordered the estranged husband of Atiya Sabri, one of the six Supreme Court petitioners, against the instant triple Talaq to pay her £ 21,000 monthly alimony so she can raise her money two daughters.

Atiya married on March 24, 2012 and immediately received “Talaq” on November 2, 2015. She filed a complaint with the Saharanpur court in November 2015, and the process took well over five years.

The incident had shocked everyone since her husband Wajid Ali gave her triple talaq by writing the word “talaq” three times on a piece of paper in Hindi.

The court also ordered her husband Wajid Ali to pay her £ 13.4 in arrears since the case was brought five years ago.

Atiya claimed her husband and in-laws forced her out of the house after giving birth to their second daughter in 2015. She has also charged them with asking for a £ 20 dowry, The Times Of India reported.

Atiya was extremely pleased with the verdict and now wants more women to join the fight. She was quoted as saying that she felt blessed that God had chosen her to “fight for the triple talaq”. “It’s a victory of honor,” she said.

She had argued in family court that “if marriage is a contract between two people, why only the man is given the right to choose to break it. She should have equal rights too.”
