After a bitter court battle over custody of her child, a 20-year-old mother emerged victorious despite accusations from her husband of mental instability. The husband had appealed to the Bahrain court, requesting custody of the baby, arguing that his wife was mentally incapable and unable to care for the child. However, the court rejected his claims after reviewing a medical report from a psychiatric hospital that found her mentally healthy.

On the basis of the medical report, the court ruled in favor of the wife and gave her custody of the child. In addition, the court ordered the husband to pay more than BD2,000 annually for the expenses of the wife and their child.

During the trial, the woman’s attorney revealed that her client suffered from marital problems from the early stages of their marriage. These problems surfaced when the wife discovered her husband’s criminal record and multiple extramarital affairs.

In addition, the lawyer claimed that the man’s academic credentials were fake. The situation worsened with the birth of her child. The woman told the court that her husband began torturing her and pressuring her to accept his illegal relationships and inappropriate behavior. Finally, feeling unable to live up to her husband’s standards, she decided to file for divorce.

The husband then claimed that his wife had previously admitted to suffering from mental health problems and taking psychotropic drugs. He also accused her of threatening the baby and claimed that she suffered from anger issues.

The wife, in turn, filed a counterclaim, demanding a divorce and financial support for herself and the child, since the husband was not willing to take care of her. The court carefully examined the evidence presented by both parties and finally ruled in favor of the mother, recognizing her ability to care for the child and her right to a stable life.
