Barrow RNLI joins the seek for lacking individuals

Volunteer crew members from Barrow RNLI launched both lifeboats in the early hours of the morning to assist in the search for a missing person on Walney Island.

The call for help came from HM Coastguard’s regional base in Holyhead at 1.56am yesterday 11 April.

The information received was that a concern had been raised for the welfare of an individual believed to be on the west side of Walney Island in the Sandy Gap area.

The crew was called and the inshore lifeboat Vision of Tamworth was launched at 2:15 am with Andy Baxter at the helm, assisted by Saul Tomlin and Adam Cleasby. The all-weather lifeboat Grace Dixon was launched at 2.35am under the command of helmsman Jonny Long and a crew of four.

The lifeboats headed to the west side of Walney Island and were on their way to the scene when they were dispatched by the Coast Guard when it was confirmed the missing person had been found and was safe.

Both lifeboats returned to the boathouse shortly after 3:30 a.m., where they were stored and made ready for the next launch.
