Body of lacking particular person recovered from reservoir

Search crews recovered the body of a person they believe is a missing New Yorker from the Green River Reservoir in Hyde Park Thursday morning, according to a press release from Vermont State Police.

The person believed to be Joshua Hwang, 22, of New Windsor, New York, is being examined for the cause of death at the chief medical examiner’s office in Burlington, police said.

As of Sunday, Hwang was on a camping trip with friends in a remote region of the park. Police were notified Tuesday night that he had left the campsite earlier that day and had not returned. According to an earlier state police press release, the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department was directing the search as of Wednesday morning.

Vermont State Police dispatched their dive team Wednesday afternoon to join other agencies in searching for Hwang.

According to the press release, Hwang was last seen around 3pm on Tuesday with his friends in a wet T-shirt, shorts and no shoes. He didn’t know the area.

The park, which was temporarily closed for daytime use during the search, has since reopened to the public, according to Vermont State Parks.

“We are saddened by this finding and offer our condolences to the family and our appreciation to the Vermont EMTs,” the agency said in a tweet Thursday.
