The body of a missing boater was found Monday after a ship capsized in Groton. Vermont State Police said they were notified after 11 p.m. Sunday night that a small boat carrying three people had overturned on Levi Pond. Two of the three boaters returned to shore, according to police, while the third person remained missing. A search operation was launched, but crews could not locate the missing boater after several hours. Members of the Vermont State Police underwater recovery team located the missing person’s body early Monday morning. The person was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released the name of the deceased pending notification of next of kin. An autopsy will be performed at the chief medical officer’s office in Burlington. At this time, police do not believe the death was suspicious.

According to police, two of the three boaters returned to shore while the third person remained missing.
A search operation was initiated, but after several hours the crews were unable to locate the missing boater.
