(NewsNation) — When Brittany Tee left her boyfriend's house in 2023, he thought she was going to her mother's house, but instead the 35-year-old simply disappeared. The police are now asking the public for help in the search.

What happened to Brittany Tee?

Brittany Tee walked out the door of the Massachusetts home where she lived with her boyfriend in January 2023 and was never seen again. Her family wondered if her bubbly, caring personality made her a target.

Her family called her the “funny aunt”: the one who loved to play with her niece and nephew.

“She's the one who gets on her hands and knees on the floor and just has fun,” said her sister Bethany Tee.

Her mother, Susan Tee, agrees.

“Everything the kids did, she did,” Susan Tee said.

The children now have difficulty understanding what happened to their favorite playmate. At first they just thought their aunt was on vacation and forgot to tell the family where she was. But as time passed, she realized that she was actually missing.

Brittany Tee disappears

Investigators said Brittany Tee left her home in Brookfield, Massachusetts, around 8:30 a.m. on the night of January 10, 2023, but then simply disappeared.

“Check your garages, check your sheds, anything where a person might try to escape the elements,” the district attorney advised in an early press conference.

Investigators released surveillance photos from days before the disappearance showing the black jacket and hoodie that Brittany Tee was believed to have been wearing when she left the house.

But more than a year later, she is still missing.

“We know she left the house,” District Attorney Joseph Early said. “Where she went after that is still a mystery. We don’t have any answers.”

Susan Tee spoke to her daughter on the phone just half an hour before she disappeared.

“We had a short conversation and she started crying. I asked what was wrong and she said, 'Oh, nothing, Mom, we'll talk about it later,'” Susan Tee said.

When she couldn't reach Brittany Tee for two days, Susan Tee became worried and texted her boyfriend.

“He called me back shortly after and said, 'How's Brittany? Isn't she with you?'” Susan Tee said.

They immediately went to the house and discovered Brittany Tee's Jeep, which still had her purse and keys inside.

Her boyfriend said he thought Brittany Tee went to her mother's house.

“He knew she was talking to me and thought she was asking me to pick her up,” Susan Tee said.

Investigators said the friend cooperated fully and the family is not releasing his name because they say there is no evidence he did anything wrong.

“We get pretty consistent stories from different people,” Early said. “As for the boyfriend, he was very cooperative from the start.”

In photos taken two weeks prior to Christmas, Brittany Tee is seen playing with her niece and nephew.

“She had more energy, she was goofy with the kids,” Bethany Tee said. “I felt like I had my sister back.”

The transition from joy to disappearance is what worries her mother.

“We can't imagine what could have gone wrong in two weeks when she's gone,” Susan Tee said.

Early would not confirm whether Brittany Tee's phone pinged after her disappearance, but said multiple searches left no stone unturned.

“Investigators were tireless in their searches,” he said. “Helicopters, drones, canine units, civilian search parties.”

Did someone take advantage of Brittany Tee's caring personality?

The Tee family is confident that Brittany Tee would not have walked alone down the unlit street in the freezing cold.

“She had just spoken to my mother half an hour before and was absolutely clear,” Bethany Tee said. “She was neither drunk nor altered in any way.”

The family said Brittany Tee worked at the local liquor store where she became friends with the customers.

“She is kind, loving and funny and people are drawn to her personality,” Susan Tee said. “We're just worried that maybe the wrong person was attracted to her personality and she was too trusting. Did the wrong person come along? And she got into the wrong vehicle?”

Early said he couldn't speculate about possible scenarios.

“We asked for cameras to see if there might have been another vehicle there, if someone had stopped or if she might have gotten into another car,” he said. “At this point we don’t have definitive answers.”

Her family just hopes someone with information will come forward.

NewsNation reached out to Brittany Tee's boyfriend through the family, but he declined an interview.

The district attorney stressed that anyone with information should call the hotline, and any information, no matter how small, could be the case.

“We are still seeking information from the public,” Early said. “We would welcome more information from the public, no matter how trivial you think it may be.”

Brittany Tee is 1.65 meters tall and weighs about 55 kilograms, has brown hair and blue eyes. Anyone with information should call the tip line at 508-453-7589.
