Canyon’s new app lets you locate your stolen bike using GPS tracking

Canyon has released a new app with global GPS tracking, guided assembly instructions and a digital log of your bike’s components and measurements.

According to Canyon, the new app is compatible with all bikes released from 2020, although some models have limited functionality.

The GPS tracking feature is currently available on the new Spectral:ON electric mountain bike, with more models to come.

Canyon plans to add more integrations as the app evolves, with ride tracking expected in future updates.

To access the Canyon app, owners must log in with the account details they used to purchase their bike. These are then displayed in a “digital garage”.

The app requires iOS 15 or Android 7.1 or newer and is available on the App Store and Google Play.

Canyon says the app will allow users to track their bike via GPS.

Currently this feature is only available with the new Spectral:ON. This is Canyon’s first bike to feature the GPS module required for tracking.

The 173.8 g tracking module works via a 4G LTE connection in a similar way to a smartphone and sends the bike’s GPS data to Canyon’s servers, which then show the bike’s location in the app.

Canyon says notifications will be sent when a bike exits a geofence, so your phone won’t ping if you move the bike around your home. canyon

The app sends a notification to your phone when the bike has been moved and provides guidance on what to do in the event of theft.

Canyon says it will offer 12 months of free tracking to all GPS-equipped bikes. After that, however, customers will have to pay an undisclosed subscription fee to continue accessing the feature.

Customers can choose to turn off the tracking feature or remove the module from the bike altogether.

The module is powered by the bike’s drive unit battery and has a “buffer” battery that allows you to track the bike’s location even when the main battery has been removed.

It’s not clear if the GPS module will be fitted to unsupported bikes in the future, but it’s likely that we’ll see GPS tracking across Canyon’s e-bike lineup.

While Canyon provides global location, a bike can only send its location if it has a 4G LTE connection.

Canyon says GPS-equipped bikes will get discounted bike insurance deals, which will be available for purchase through the new app starting later this month.

As a direct-to-customer brand, Canyon sends its bikes to customers partially assembled and in boxes.

To help you assemble your bike, the new app features guided videos and step-by-step instructions on unpacking and setting up for the ride.

The app also provides users with maintenance guides on how to look after their bikes and allows users to log saddle height and other measurements that can be useful when disassembling a bike for travel.

In the app’s “Digital Garage” feature, users can search for their bike’s original specification list.

Canyon has announced that the app’s functionality will be expanded in the future to include the ability to purchase replacement parts through its store, allowing users to easily access a list of compatible parts.

Relevant content such as user manuals and maintenance guides will also be available in this section of the app, so customers can access it when they are away from home.
