CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – Carbondale Police, with assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and the Jackson County Coroner's Office, responded to a report of a deceased person in a rural area between North Oakland Street and New Era Road on October 5, 2024, approximately 2:20 p.m
After an investigation, the body was identified as Richard Slomkowski, a 67-year-old Carbondale resident who had been missing since August 13, 2024.
According to authorities, no foul play is suspected and Slomkowski's death is believed to be an accident.
Carbondale City Manager and Police Chief Stan Reno said the investigation is ongoing and urged anyone with information to contact Carbondale police.
Chief Reno expressed his deepest condolences to Slomkowski's family and loved ones and said, “We are grateful for the assistance of the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, the Jackson County Coroner's Office and everyone who contributed to the search efforts.”
