The Fremont City Council will vote tonight on whether to approve a three-year subscription costing more than $110,000 per year to a GPS fleet tracking software company.
Southern California-based Teletrac Navman's software “allows staff to track all city vehicles, access recorded video in the event of accidents or claims, and have an updated maintenance program,” according to staff. The report is included in the council's agenda.
The Teletrac system automatically notifies appropriate city personnel when the check engine light in a vehicle activates. In addition, the kilometers driven, fuel consumption and maintenance costs are automatically recorded to assess whether a vehicle is functioning optimally.
The three-year subscription contract is for 220 vehicles at a price of $11,837.30 per year and a six-year contract for 25 “seasonal vehicles” at a price of $5,992.50 per year, with the option to cancel the contract after three years.

There are also two one-time service fees of $19.95, one for each contract.
The City Council will also vote to approve a recommendation to negotiate a consulting agreement with Burns & McDonnell, a Kansas City-based construction and engineering firm, for an “airport layout plan” for Fremont Municipal Airport.
The ALP is part of the Fremont Airport Capital Improvement plan, estimated to cost $440,000.
There are no costs associated with this solution. After approving the selection of a consulting firm, the next step is to enter into a contractual agreement with the company, which is then presented to the City Council for a vote.
