The Coast Guard has launched a SEARCH to locate a suspected missing person.
The RNLI Eastbourne volunteer crew were called into action around 7pm on Sunday 27 March following reports of a missing person.
The coastal lifeboat was launched and the area searched.
“Following a thorough search of the area with nothing found, our coastal lifeboat has been decommissioned and returned to the station,” a spokeswoman for the RNLI Eastbourne said.
Earlier this year, the RNLI Eastbourne rescued a windsurfer after he ran into trouble in “choppy sea conditions”.
The man, who was not visible from shore, had reportedly been in trouble for at least 45 minutes before a search was launched.
He was eventually spotted through binoculars by Tom Mele, a volunteer crew member.
The inshore lifeboat crew were then to be directed to the windsurfer who had suffered equipment damage which resulted in him requiring assistance.
“The injured person was cold, but otherwise well and very grateful for our help,” said a spokeswoman.
“This was a very experienced windsurfer with the right gear and did the right thing by staying with his board which contributed to a successful recovery.”
