Denver stolen cars: GPS tracking could help catch thieves

DENVER (PDPR) – Police are announcing new plans to combat auto theft in Denver, which has recently reached one of the highest rates in the country.

Officials say this new program will allow car owners to pre-authorize the Denver Police Department to access the GPS data of cars that have been reported stolen.

DPD is also expected to introduce window stickers for cars registered to the scheme, something department heads hope will deter would-be thieves.

Colorado will see record number of auto thefts in 2022

More than 46,000 cars were stolen in Colorado last year, with 61% of those thefts occurring in Denver and Adams counties.
