Disputes over infidelity led to lethal shootings on Christmas Eve

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – A 34-year-old Fort Wayne man was arrested in a Christmas Eve shooting that killed a woman, court documents show.

Police were called to the 2300 block on S Lafayette Street around 9 p.m. Friday after receiving calls that a woman was dead after an argument. The woman, 30-year-old Brittany Deck, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her death was considered a homicide.

Probable cause documents obtained Monday from the NBC Fort Wayne show, Jacob Chacon was arrested for murder in the shootings. Documents state that Chacon, who was in a long-term relationship with Deck, was told earlier that day that Deck was cheating.

Deck said she feared for her safety so she brought a relative back to her house and said she believed Chacon wouldn’t harm her if she were there. The underage relative said she was in the house with Deck’s two children when Chacon got home and started arguing with Deck about the affair.

She said Chacon started hitting Deck and throwing her belongings outside when the relative said she heard Deck yell “Jacob please don’t” before a single shot was fired.

The relative said she then heard Chacon say “baby no, baby no” before running out of the house and telling her to call 911. Documents say Chacon was arrested hours later after police said he was found with “significant amounts” of blood on him.
