Headline breaking news stories over the past year involving child custody and legal issues have touched on the serious and critical issues of parental abduction, co-parental violence and murder. The circumstances in these cases are tragic. However, they do contain important lessons for us in how to heed red flags in family matters and what we can do to prevent such cases from happening again.
A parental kidnapping case lost in translation
In one such notable case, Amitkumar Kanubhai Patel, a former resident of Edison, NJ, was convicted last month of kidnapping by his parents after nearly four years of litigation. This case focused on Patel’s manipulations in carrying out his kidnapping plans.
