Dozens rescued from Highway 99 after automobiles get caught in flood water; Search for close by lacking individuals
Flooding on a portion of Sacramento County’s Highway 99 caused vehicles to become stuck in the roadway and rescued dozens of people Sunday morning, a fire official said. According to Caltrans, Highway 99 is closed 1.4 miles (2.2 km) south of Elk Gove at Dillard Road. Firefighters are searching the area for a credible missing person report. Chief meteorologist Mark Finan reported from Dillard Road that a number of rescue vehicles were on site. He said he saw a helicopter taking two people to safety and there were two others who still needed help. Chris Schamber, a firefighter with Cosumnes Fire Service, said “dozens and dozens” of people had been rescued and urged people to stay home. The area is affected by flooding from the Cosumnes River and Deer Creek. The carriageway will be reduced to one lane for southbound traffic at Golden Gate Boulevard in Stockton. Motorists are asked to use alternative routes.

The Cosumnes Fire Brigade say they walked up and down Dillard Road a few times throughout the night to rescue people from their cars. They are confident that they have accessed cars close to the lane and are now looking for cars that have been swept far from the lane.
