“Dukes of Hazzard” star John Schneider sentenced to prison for unpaid child support

It appears that former Dukes of Hazzard star John Schneider has had a run-in with the law.

According to TMZ, Schneider is reportedly facing jail time after failing to meet the deadline for his child support payments. The actor's estranged wife, Elvira Castle, was due to receive over $150,000 in child support payments through March 2018.

Schneider was unable to pay at the time, so he was sentenced to three days in the LA County Jail starting Monday, June 11th. The actor, who has also appeared in series such as Nip/Tuck, Dirty Sexy Money and The Secret, Life of the American Teenager and Smallville, parted ways with Castle in 2014.

According to a previous report from TMZ, Schneider paid his ex over $18,000 a month in spousal support following their split.

The couple were married for 21 years and have three adult children together, two from Castle's previous marriage. In addition to his prison sentence, Schneider must also perform 240 hours of community service.

In an interview with Fox News before his detention on Tuesday, Schneider said: “I'm discouraged by the system, but I'm keeping an open mind and I'm going to do what I have to do and get through the next few days.”

“It’s common sense versus entitlement. I’ve been working seven days a week, 80 hours a week since at least 1978,” he continued. “Like every working person, I have a mountain of debt that was tied to my dream. And there is now a group that somehow feels that they have a right to a life or even luxuries without work, and the justice system seems to agree with that.”

“If I had it [money]”I would have given it to her just to put the whole thing behind me, but I haven't,” he added. “Hopefully this is proof of that.”

The actor, who most recently appeared in the Tyler Perry-created series “The Haves and Have Nots” for OWN, said he received some encouraging words from Perry about the situation. “[Tyler and I] I agree on this very important thing: They can take your things, but they can't make your dream come true… He is a dreamer and lives his dreams, and I am the same and we agree. So the next three days will fuel my dream, not hurt it.”
