Eddy Curry says that getting married in highschool was one of many worst errors he ever made: “I ended up paying her $16,000 in little one help each month and one other $9,000 in little one help… It was loopy.”
For a player to make it to the NBA is a big deal, the league is the highest level of basketball in the world and after the boom it’s had since Michael Jordan was top dog, the money that the Earn players in the league, only way up. While just making it into the league is difficult enough, even fewer players get massive contracts right away, and only top draft picks make good money from their rookie deals.
Eddy Curry may not be a household name, but he was a top five draft pick in the 2001 NBA draft and enjoyed over 10 seasons in the league, during which time he signed a $60 million contract with the New York Knicks brought in. Even his first contract was almost $14 million, but he lost part of it.
Curry married in high school and eventually had a son with the woman he married. When things didn’t work out between the two, he figured the split might be amicable, but instead he had a drawn-out divorce that left him with massive alimony and child support payments. He talked about it in an interview with DJ Vlad.
