Election body installs GPS tracking system in vehicles used in elections

The Election Commission will use the GPS system to monitor the movement of EVMs

Calcutta:

The Election Commission has decided to install a GPS location tracking system in all vehicles used for election purposes in West Bengal, an official said. A communication in this regard has been sent to election officials, he said today.

“The GPS tracking system will be used to monitor the movement of EVMs and other electoral materials from the Distribution/Distribution Center and Receiving Center (DCRC) to the polling station on the day before the elections to ensure that there is no tampering during transportation.” “I will take them to the vault after the election,” the official said.

The poll body has asked the administration to take immediate action if any discrepancies are found besides questioning the drivers of the affected vehicles and the staff in charge of the EVMs, he said.

Meanwhile, the Commission today appointed Joint Secretary in the School Education Department Arnab Chatterjee as Joint Chief Electoral Officer.

Mr. Chatterjee will succeed Rahul Nath, an official order said.

The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections in the state will begin on April 19.
