Evening Owl Cinematics challenged the founder’s “poisonous” tradition and infidelity

YouTube collective Night Owl Cinematics is exploding on feeds today after being viewed anonymously for all kinds of alleged wrongdoing.

Conversations and records allegedly by co-founder and co-founder Sylvia Chan surfaced on Instagram, where an account quoted current and former employees who complained about the channel’s work ethic, toxic culture, and misdeeds, including allegations that she insulted employees and Infidelity rumors.

The posts on the Sgcickenrice account, which has gathered more than 10,000 followers in six days, contain negative job reviews from former employees, describing a “toxic” work environment and a “disrespectful culture”. They also detailed how channel talent treat the crew “horribly”, overwhelm employees and even have an office rat problem.

The contributions could not be verified independently. Night Owl Cinematics, one of Singapore’s most popular broadcasters with more than a million subscribers, has yet to respond publicly. It did not immediately respond to messages asking for comment.

Screenshots of textual conversations allegedly from Chan called employees “damn disabled,” “damn shit,” “damn extra,” and even said that she called a “selfish loud slut” to “talk less”. Another thread of text messaging suggests that Chan described the occasional host Samantha Tan as “annoying” and “fuck face”.

Several people also spread very personal rumors about Chan’s former marriage to co-founder Ryan Tan, who both used their relationship as part of their brand and presented themselves as exemplary business and life partners.

Comments claimed that during their marriage, she had an affair with the co-founder of buy-and-sell platform Carousell, who divorced after 10 years last year.

“Before [R]yan and [S]ylvia got divorced I saw her being intimate with the Carousell boss (Marcus) in a hotel restaurant. She obviously cheated [R]yan, maybe that’s why you got divorced? ”posted the screenshot of the comment by an unnamed user.

The company also used lawyers to mediate routine contract matters in lieu of a human resources department, with employees complaining that they had received no response to their recent resignations. Some said they were removed from the channel’s media kit. One claimed “a lack of management support and talent development” and another described their relationship with the channel as “extremely confusing”.

Night Owl is best known for producing food reviews, lifestyle vlogs and comedy sketches.
