Family members arrested in connection with plot to murder Texas judge in dispute over custody of their children

LIBERTY HILL, Texas – Three people face attempted capital crimes after plotting to murder a judge in March, police in Liberty Hill, Texas, said.

An investigation was launched after a burglar shot a mother 11 times and her boyfriend was shot twice.

The victim told officers that her ex-husband, Clinton Harmon, was the suspect and that a custody dispute was the cause.

Then, in July, Harmon's ex-girlfriend called Louisiana police to confirm that Harmon was the suspect and the shooting was planned.

“She recalled a family meeting in Bastrop County in July 2023 where Harmon, his mother Teresa and his adoptive father Matt discussed ways to murder the victim, as well as the judge who heard the custody battle,” Williamson County Sheriff Mike Gleason said.

The judge, his family and the victims of the original shooting were placed under permanent protection and the incident remained under investigation.

Authorities discovered that Harmon's vehicle had a tracking device that came from the lender from whom he purchased it and who controls the property.

A subpoena for the location of the vehicle on the day of the attempted murder revealed that Harmon was less than a mile from the crime scene, police officials said.

Officials arrested Clinton Harmon on September 8 for attempted murder at the New Orleans airport. On September 16, Matt and Theresa Harmon were taken into custody.
