Fatal drowning, search for missing person in Raglan continues

Police are able to report that a person has been found dead off the coast of Raglan after being swept off the rocks at Papanui Point earlier this morning.

Another person stays in the water.

The pair are believed to have been fishing in the area and were in the water around 8:45 a.m.

Police, Westpac rescue helicopters, Raglan Surf lifeguards, a fixed-wing aircraft and the Coast Guard were stationed in the area but were unable to locate the missing person.

Further searches are being carried out along the coast at low tide and are ongoing.

The police extend their condolences to the family of the deceased and the investigation is ongoing.
