Heavy rains have caused flooding in the western Black Sea region of Turkey. Six people got into the water and lost their lives in the province of Kastamonu. Efforts to find and rescue a missing person are reportedly ongoing in Bartın.
In a statement on the matter, Deputy Interior Minister Muhterem Ince announced that 318 people in Bartın, 210 people in Kastamonu and 106 people in Sinop had been evacuated by helicopters and vehicles.

Search and rescue operations
The AFAD statement indicates that the AFAD teams, fire fighters, the National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE) and gendarmerie officers are looking for the missing person in Akörensöküler village.
In view of the fact that the “Governors’ offices of the provinces of Samsun, Amasya, Çorum, Çankırı, Karabük, Giresun, Ordu, Tokat, Bolu, Düzce and Zonguldak were on full alert,” AFAD also provided detailed information on the number of search and rescue operations communicated to personnel and equipment.
* Sinop
According to a statement, 300 flood victims were evacuated from the Zaferköy Ağdacı district in Bartın’s Ulus district and taken to a safer area. In addition, 210 citizens from the Güzel and Merkez districts in the village of Çayüstü in Kastamonu were evacuated.
While 106 flood victims were evacuated from Babaçay, Zaviye, Söküçayırı and Yenikonak villages in Ayancık district of Sinop, patients undergoing treatment at Ayancık public hospital were also evacuated, the AFAD statement said.
AFAD has also announced that there are power outages in 4 villages in Bartın, 180 villages in Kastamonu and 87 villages in Sinop’s Ayancık and Türkeli districts. A mobile electric vehicle was reportedly transferred to Kastamonu from the AFAD’s Samsun branch. A generator was also sent from Samsun to Sinop to be used by the search and rescue teams.
While two bridges in Kastamonu and two bridges in Bartın collapsed, several bridges in three provinces were damaged. There is currently no connection to Sinop’s village Ayancık from village streets.
Precipitation on 11.-12. August
According to the reports of the General Directorate of Meteorology on August 11, 2021, the amount of precipitation in the districts was as follows: Bartın Ulus – 90 mm; Kastamonu Küre – 198 mm, Pınarbaşı – 167 mm, Azdavay – 145 mm, İnebolu – 123 mm, Abana – 122 mm, Bozkurt – 117 mm; Sinop Merkez – 104.6 kg, Ayancık – 301.03 kg, Boyabat – 76.6 mm, Dikmen – 54 mm, Erfelek – 78.6 mm, Gerze – 72.4 mm, Merkez – 83.8 mm, Türkeli – 223.23kg. Starting today (August 12th) at 6 p.m., the heavy rains in the region are expected to subside. (EMK / SD)
