Gabby Petito alive? Consultants warn that point is vital, however the police are on the “proper observe”
The disappearance of Gabrielle ‘Gabby’ Petito, a 22-year-old Long Island woman, caught the imagination of people in the United States. Petito was mysteriously missing while on a cross-country road trip with her fiancé Brian Laundrie, who is now a “person of interest” on the case.
Laundrie, who has since returned to his Florida home, has reportedly hired a lawyer and refused to cooperate with investigators. But authorities said that a month before Petito was officially reported missing, Utah police were called to investigate an incident in which the couple fought and exchanged beatings.

Moab police officers were called to a cooperative after police said they spoke to Petito and Laundrie on December 12th.
Police said Petito did not want to be separated from Laundrie and started beating him, which resulted in Laundrie grabbing her face, pushing her back and locking her out of the car. According to the incident report, “Nobody reported that the man beat the woman, both the man and the woman stated that they were in love and engaged and desperately did not want anyone to be charged with a crime.” based on the couple’s testimony, but states that they fought during the incident.
Laundrie reportedly told the officer that the two had traveled together for four or five months and “that time created emotional tension between them and increased the number of arguments.” Petito was reportedly visibly upset and told the officer that she was struggling with her mental health due to ongoing arguments with Laundrie and that she was suffering from a condition blacked out by police in the report.
Petito’s mother, Nicole Schmidt, said she was last heard on August 25. She said she received text messages from her on August 27th and 30th, just one text. I have not spoken to her verbally. “
No evidence has yet been found that Laundrie was involved in her disappearance. However, many of those who have followed the case on the news have voiced their suspicions against Laundrie, who reportedly failed to cooperate with law enforcement. But what do experts say about the case?
About the investigation
“It’s literally a mystery because you have no idea. You can’t get into a situation like this, provided you know how it will turn out, because you really don’t know, ”private investigator John Allman told the WFLA. Allman, who has worked with law firms and law enforcement agencies on cases like this one for more than a decade, said it was crucial to understand Petito’s mindset at the time of her alleged disappearance.
“Trying to understand a person’s mindset the last time people saw them is critical because it can tell you if they wanted to flee to go somewhere alone,” Allman said. “The goal is always to find only the missing person. They hope they are safe and they only had to step back for a minute, ”Allman said, adding that in a case like this, investigators usually start at the end, starting with the last place a person was seen .
“I think the police are on the right track,” John Callicut, the Florida private investigator behind Walton Investigations, told Insider. “Due to the circumstances [Laundrie is] surely someone you want to speak to. “He added,” In my opinion, the police always have a little more than they say. They withhold information. “
About Laundrie’s commitment
Former federal prosecutor Stephen Crawford said, “Law enforcement officers come into a position where they know who did it, but then they have to figure out how to prove it. And there they are. ”He also said that since Laundrie was simply an interested person and had hired a lawyer, the young man could not be forced to speak. “This is a case that, if it turns out what it looks like, will be prosecuted on the ground wherever they find what they find,” Crawford said.
Guillermo Hechevarria, a private detective who works for Investigation Services Unlimited in Florida, told Insider that he believes Laundrie left Petito most likely alive somewhere in the Tetons. He said that Laundrie called in a lawyer who suggested that the police might also want to search for a body within a mile of Laundrie’s childhood home.
Harvey Morse, a private investigator with Locators International in Florida, said Laundrie’s behavior after returning from the road trip sparked “many red flags”. He said police will likely attempt to summon Laundrie’s cell phone and look for campsites he and Petito may have visited in the Tetons.
About Petito’s chances of survival
John Van Steenkiste, a private investigator for Florida-based private investigator Compass Investigations, said the overall likelihood of finding a person alive after going missing for two weeks in the wild is “minimal”. This was also said by Morse, a former police officer and founder of the Florida Association of Private Investigators.
Van Steenkiste said, “If this person was still alive when they left but was trapped in a cave, room or building, or locked up in any way, they will not have anything to eat for weeks, if they were hot, this person becomes dehydrate. ”Given these circumstances, experts are not optimistic that Petito will be found alive.
