Gabby Petito’s mother, whose body was found last month, has admitted she is “pissed off” because the last person she saw alive is missing.
Gabby Petito’s mother, whose murdered body was found last month in a remote national park in the United States, has drawn her attention and anger to the man who is likely to have been the last to see her alive.
Gabby Petito, 22, and boyfriend Brian Laundrie, 23, were on a road trip across the United States when the couple stopped in Bridger Teton National Park, Wyoming in September.
Ms. Petito’s body was found in a national park campsite on September 19, five days after Mr. Laundrie, who remains the only person of interest in the case, disappeared from his parents’ home in North Port, Florida . Her death was classified as a homicide.
The search for Mr. Laundrie has so far been unsuccessful as local police and the FBI combed parts of Florida and other US states as clues about his possible whereabouts are being added.
On September 17, Mr. Laundrie’s parents informed investigators that they had not seen their son since September 14.
While Mr. Laundrie has not been named as a suspect in the murder of his girlfriend, an arrest warrant has been issued against him for allegedly using Ms. Petito’s credit card.
The relationship between the Petito and Laundrie families continues to deteriorate as Ms. Petito’s parents ask for information about their daughter.
At a press conference earlier this week, the Petito family lawyer Richard Stafford condemned Brian’s parents Chris and Roberta Laundrie for their lack of cooperation.
“The laundries didn’t help us find Gabby. You certainly won’t help us find Brian. ”
Gabby’s mother, Nichole Schmidt, went on Twitter yesterday and asked Mr. Laundrie to get in touch.
Ms. Schmidt reported Gabby missing on September 11, 13 days after she last heard from her daughter.
Ms. Petito’s parents and stepparents are unanimous in their calls to find the 22-year-old’s killer.
Ms. Petito’s stepfather Jim Schmidt, father Joe Petito, mother Nichole Schmidt and stepmother Tara Petito thanked law enforcement officials and people around the world for their support and help in finding Gabby’s body earlier this week.
Each family member showed off new tattoos that were supposedly designed by Petito. The tattoos are “Let it Be” and “Believe”.
Relatives and friends gathered last weekend to say goodbye to Ms. Petito.
Mrs. Petito’s father, who opened the funeral service in Holbrook, New York, urged Americans not to be saddened by his daughter’s tragic death, but to be motivated by her short, adventurous life.
“If you leave here today, be inspired by what she put on the table – because the whole planet now knows this woman’s name,” said Petito.
“I couldn’t be more proud as a father.”
Her stepfather, Jim Schmidt, delivered a positive message: “It’s okay to grieve for Gabby, and it’s okay to feel sadness and pain. But we want to celebrate her and how she lived her life. “
Mr Schmidt said his stepdaughter was an “example for us all” because she experienced and enjoyed “every moment in this beautiful world”.
A live feed of the service showed loved ones hugging in front of bouquets of flowers and large photos of Ms. Petito.
Dozens of police officers and other first responders lined up to enter the funeral home.
