From Ruben Morales Iglesias: The Government of Belize (GOB) has equipped its fleet of first responders and Highway Patrol with GPS tracking devices and is training staff on how to use the devices.
“Today, the Department of Economic Development partnered with Traksolutions Belize Ltd. on the second road safety project. teamed up to train municipal authorities and the Ministry of Transport in the use of GPS tracking devices,” the GOB press office said in a statement.
“The purpose of the training is to familiarize users with the features and management of this dynamic device that allows them to collect sensitive data.”
The press office said six ambulances (five for the Department of Health and Wellbeing and one for BERT), six highway patrol vehicles (all for the Department of Transport), 18 motorcycles (two for each community) and two project vehicles were purchased in 2020 by the Second Road Safety Project with BZ$4,087,422.12 in funding from the Caribbean Development Bank have all been fitted with GPS tracking devices.
“Through the continued support of the beneficiaries of these vehicles, the Second Road Safety Project entered into a BZ$38,220.00 contractual agreement with Traksolutions Belize Ltd. to install GPS tracking devices in these vehicles and allocate maintenance fees for 24 months,” the press said Office.
dr Osmond Martinez, CEO of the Department of Economic Development, said that the GPS tracking devices will not only track vehicles’ real-time location, but will also provide data collection and generate reports on activity, usage and maintenance via web-based software .
“This software can also generate reports on vehicle speed, stop duration, engine run time and fuel consumption, allowing department managers to ensure the efficient and effective use of vehicles,” the statement said.
