GPS: GPS tracking for waste management |

Thiruvananthapuram: In a major step towards more efficient waste management, the civic body has equipped 47 vehicles with GPS (Global Positioning System). These include vehicles of seven companies that collect poultry waste and 40 vehicles of 29 companies that process food waste within the city limits. The aim of this initiative is to monitor the movements of these vehicles and ensure that waste is collected only from designated locations and not illegally dumped elsewhere.
The GPS installation enables accurate tracking of these vehicles, enabling the authorities to keep a close eye on their operations. The GPS locations of these vehicles can be monitored through the ICCC (Integrated Command and Control Centre), which acts as a central hub for monitoring various aspects of the city's infrastructure and services.
Mayor Arya Rajendran, in a statement, stressed the importance of responsible waste management and warned that strict legal action would be taken against those found carelessly or illegally dumping their garbage in the city.
The corporation is committed to maintaining a clean and hygienic environment for its citizens and does not tolerate any violation of waste management norms, especially after the death of a garbage worker in the Amayizhanjan canal in Thampanoor.
By monitoring the movements of these vehicles, the company can ensure that waste is properly collected and disposed of.
