MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Shelby County Schools will have a new transportation provider for the new school year.
First Student was named as the new company bringing students to and from school.

“Safe and reliable transportation is critical to our mission to educate, empower and inspire our students,” said Dr. Joris M. Ray, superintendent of the Shelby County Schools. “We are confident that First Student will provide the high quality transportation services we have come to expect so that our students arrive at school on time and ready to learn.”
The new company has new buses with the latest technology.
First Student buses have air conditioning, GPS tracking, six cameras, and flashing LED stop signs.

“We are excited to work with Shelby County Schools to improve transportation services for thousands of students and their families,” said Tony Vidrine, vice president of the First Student Region. “At First Student, we are committed to using our experience, values, and resources to support the district’s mission, and we look forward to becoming an important part of the community in the years to come.”
First Student drivers must complete at least 40 hours of training before they can drive a bus.
First Student will be the transport service for SCS from July 16.
SCS transportation was previously provided by Durham School Services.
