GPS monitoring characteristic leads investigators to suspected theft

Pittsboro, NC — In August 2022, members of the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office responded to Beaver Creek Road, New Hill, regarding a reported burglary and intrusion into a motor vehicle. The victim reported that several personal items were stolen from the vehicle, some of which were equipped with GPS tracking capabilities.

Investigators used this information to track down the stolen items at multiple locations in Durham and to identify Chaz Corea Myers, 29, of 1227 Landon Street, Durham, as the prime suspect in the case. Additional evidence confirmed that Myers was in the area of ​​the burglary at the time of the burglary.

Myers is charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle and theft. He was arrested in Durham by the Durham County Sheriff’s Office and placed on $5,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on January 30, 2023.
