GPS tracking helps Park City School District parents keep track of buses

Last year's record snowpack caused bus delays throughout the Park City School District. In January 2023, a parent said his son waited outside Jeremy Ranch Elementary for more than 45 minutes for the bus to take him home. Since there was no way of knowing when the bus would arrive, the children had to wait outside.

Heidi Matthews, community relations manager for the Park City School District, said parents have expressed concerns.

“There have been some concerns over the years about being able to tell when something is too late, especially during storms, and our community wanted to make sure our children weren't out in the cold,” she said.

The district previously had a way for parents to track buses, but the company was forced to suspend operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. From November 2023 there will be a new application for parents to track buses in real time.

Amy Taylor's child attends Jeremy Ranch Elementary School. She said she plans to use the bus tracker app, although she has had a good overall experience with district buses.

“I think it's a great idea. “It's great to have an app to track them and just see where they are just in case,” Taylor said. “But I also have to say that I haven't done that yet. If we have a bad experience, our bus is usually on time.”

The app is called MyView and parents can create an account using a school access code and their child's student ID.
