GPS Tracking Toll: The government is working on a new technology to collect the toll. If implemented, FASTag will soon become an old-fashioned toll collection system. The central government is preparing to collect the toll tax using GPS satellite technology. Currently, all this work is done with FASTag attached to the vehicle’s glass pane. Fasttag needs to be charged. As soon as the vehicle passes the toll booth, the RFID readers in the toll booth deduct the money from the FASTag. The driver doesn’t have to do anything. A satellite-based toll system is currently being piloted.

In this new system, toll tax is collected based on GPS satellite technology. The special thing about it is that you will be charged the same toll regardless of the distance travelled. A toll is charged for the distance traveled on the motorway. In March this year, Roads and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said in the Lok Sabha that the government would remove all toll booths across the country by next year. Work in this direction is progressing rapidly.

Nitin Gadkari said that instead of tollbooths, a GPS-based toll collection system will be installed. Toll tax is collected from vehicles traveling on highways or expressways using GPS imaging. GPS-based toll control systems are already implemented in many European countries. Against this background, the center is intensifying its efforts to implement it in India as well. In the current rule, the motorway distance is considered as one driving distance for the calculation of the toll tax. Normally it is 60km, if more or less, the tax will also be changed accordingly. But 60 km is considered standard. If a bridge, culvert or overpass falls on the same road, its toll will change.

What is the new technology..?

That doesn’t happen with new technologies. This is because the toll fee is calculated based on the distance your car travels. Two technologies are being worked on for this purpose. The first technology consists of an in-vehicle GPS tracking system. It helps to debit the toll money directly from the vehicle owner’s bank account via satellite on the motorway. The second technique is toll collection via number plates.

Software-supported toll collection:

The number plate contains a computerized toll collection system. It helps to collect the toll with the help of software. With this technique, the information is recorded at which point the vehicle enters the highway. After that, at the point where the car leaves the motorway, it is also registered there. Depending on the kilometers driven on the motorway during this period, the toll fee is debited from the vehicle owner’s bank account.
