Groom, who nonetheless wears a tuxedo, shoots two individuals throughout an argument over infidelity, police say
A Louisiana groom was arrested on his wedding night after shooting two people during an argument over infidelity, police and local media said.
The shooting took place over the weekend when groom Devin Jose Jones and his new wife were stuck in traffic on Bonnet Carre Spillway in LaPlace, about 30 miles from New Orleans, according to NBC subsidiary WDSU.
St. John Township Sheriff Mike Tregre told the news channel Jones accused his wife and male friend who was in the car with them of having an affair. Jones chased the man out of the car and started firing shots at him, the sheriff said. The man was hit in the leg by a bullet.
Another bullet struck the rear window of a car and hit someone in the hand, the sheriff informed the police station. Both victims were rushed to hospital and are expected to survive.
During filming, the bride got out of the car and ran to paramedics who were on site because of an unrelated car accident. The sheriff said the woman told the paramedics she was afraid of her husband and was allowed to wait in the ambulance.
Jones started banging on the ambulance doors but was arrested by MPs, the station reported.
The sheriff’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday. An online arrest report shows that 30-year-old Jones was arrested on Sunday for serious damage to property, illegal use of weapons, heavy battery and attempted second degree murder.
According to the WDSU, Jones was still wearing his tuxedo when he was taken into custody. It’s not clear if he hired a lawyer.
