AHMEDABAD: The mysterious murder case of Vadodara resident Sweety Patel has finally been solved as the Ahmedabad city crime branch revealed that she was killed by her boyfriend and a police inspector, Ajay Desai.
Premvir Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP), Ahmedabad City Crime Branch, while addressing the press said, “Sweety Patel lived in a shared apartment with Vadodara Police Inspector (Rural) Ajay Desai. She was smothered by Ajay Desai on June 4.
“Desai took Sweety's body in his Jeep Compass on June 5 and burnt it at the vacant plot of Kiritsinh Jadeja in Atali village,” Premvir Singh added.
Police Inspector Ajay Desai reportedly refused to fork out Rs 25 lakh to divorce his wife and, according to the accused's confessions, killed his partner Sweety Patel.
The investigator said that Desai stayed with Patel even after marrying the woman from his community. “Desai says he lived with Patel in a temple in 2017. But she wanted the marriage to be legalized,” he said. “Desai says he explained to Patel how much it would cost to divorce his ward’s wife.”
“The original plan was to take her to the village of Atali for murder.”
Patel went missing on June 5, an investigation began and finally the Crime Branch and ATS took over the case and arrested Desai.
