Vijayawada: A 60-year-old man brutally assaulted and killed his wife on Friday in the village of Tekulapalli in Tiruvuru Mandal, Krishna district when he injured their 35-year-old son. The deceased was identified as Vennam Padmavathi, 55.
Tiruvuru police said the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when the defendant Satyanarayana Reddy, a farmer, allegedly murdered his wife by chopping her with an ax in her sleep.
Then he attacked his son Narsi Reddy, who tried to save his mother but was able to escape with minor cuts. Satyanarayana fled the scene on his bicycle but was caught in Reddigudem village. Nuzvid DSP B Sreenivasulu, who investigated the scene, said Satyanarayana had often had arguments with Padmavathi as he suspected her allegiance.
Narsi Reddy was admitted to a state hospital while Padmavathi’s body was being taken for an autopsy. One case was registered under Section 302 of the IPC (Murder).
