PRAKASAM: Police solved the case of a pregnant woman found dead in Ullagallu Village, Mandal Mundlamuru, Prakasam District, and arrested her husband and father-in-law on Thursday for her death. The murder was exposed after autopsy reports showed injuries to the woman’s body, which police led to the defendant, who confessed to killing her in agreement with his father. Darshi DSP Prakash Rao clarified the facts of the case at a press conference.
The defendant Srinivasa Rao, son of Gurulingam from Kondaveeti village in Ullagallu, married Shailaja, daughter of Tanniru Venkayamma from Chilakaluripeta, four years ago in a caste marriage. They have a three year old son and Shailaja was three months pregnant. On the 21st of this month, Shailaja was found dead in a cowshed under suspicious circumstances. The woman’s husband informed the police that she had committed suicide.
According to the mother’s complaint, the police registered one case and are investigating the matter. While the injuries to her body, based on the post-mortem report, indicated that she did not commit suicide, but was actually killed. When Srinivasa Rao returned home from the farm a month ago, he noticed a young man from the same village who was dating ran his apartment. The man suspected her allegiance and began to torture and molest the woman. On the 16th of this month, the village elders tried to solve the problem and asked them to stay together. However, on the 21st of that month, Shailaja was found dead in a cattle shed.
The DSP said her husband, Srinivasa Rao, surrendered to the Tahsildar and pleaded guilty. The DSP stated that the defendant pleaded guilty to killing his wife and said that he strangled her neck by stepping on it with his leg while she was sleeping. He said he was upset that he was losing face in the village because of his wife’s extramarital affair and decided to kill her and portray her as suicide.
