Mel Gibson once opened up about how his marriage fell apart and revealed that he blamed himself for screwing up with his wife Robyn Moore.

Robyn Moore reportedly filed for divorce from Mel Gibson back in 2009, and their divorce is believed to be the costliest breakup in Hollywood history. Since the couple did not sign a prenuptial agreement before marriage, Gibson was forced to pay half of everything he earned during his marriage to Moore. That’s why the Braveheart actor paid his ex-wife nearly $425 million.

Speaking about his divorce on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, Mel Gibson admitted he blamed himself for the breakup with ex-wife Robyn Moore. He said,

“Look, when all is said and done, I’ve done a pretty good job of this myself on my marriage. I am responsible. If you are inclined to judge, enter it here.”

After his marriage to Moore broke up, the actor tried to find love again with the Russian singer-songwriter and pianist Oksana Grigorieva, but the American actor didn’t even succeed.

Mel Gibson dated Oksana Grigorieva for almost two years before everything fell apart in their relationship. Grigorieva even applied for a restraining order against the actor, accusing him of domestic violence against her. The Russian songwriter then released some recordings of Mel Gibson allegedly yelling at her, but the actor always claimed the recordings were faked and edited. Gibson even went into the whole incident in an interview with Deadline, saying:

“But I can’t blame some people for thinking that, considering they heard nonsense on the leaked and edited tapes. You have to put it all in context: you’re at the height of a breakdown in an irrational, heated discussion, trying to get out of a really unhealthy relationship. It’s an awful, awful moment in a day to be said to one person and it doesn’t reflect what I truly believe in or how I’ve treated people my entire life.”

However, it ended up in Mel Gibson’s favor as he has been dating former world equestrian vaulting champion Rosalind Ross since 2014. Ross also gave birth to Gibson’s ninth child, Lars Gerard, in 2017.
